The new masterplan for the first development of the Bryn East area uses the historical brickworks and its topographical impact as the starting point for an urban development that seeks to reconnect to the qualities that once gave life to the area: the nearby river, the historical factory buildings, the surrounding green structure. A new architectural interpretation of the particular topography turns a barrier into a new connector adding public program, housing and neighborhood functions with a strong material relationship to the historical condition. On top of this, new wooden buildings create new housing blocks with a strong sense of community: quiet courtyards and shared functions help create a sense of belonging and neighbourhood spirit in an area with no residents as of today.
