Proposal for an installation for the Oslo Architectural Triennale «Nature calls».
Chimes have always invited people to church. This time, it is nature that invites; it is nature that calls.
In the city, we often label sound as noise. The sounds of nature are barely present.
The wind and trees, aided by a myriad of wind chimes, create a sensory experience: the chiming sounds and play of light generate new sensory impressions within the cityscape, activating an area otherwise perceived as a «backside.» The wind chimes are crafted from simple materials available to everyone. They can be made by local schools or by visitors to the Sofienberg project. The chimes are hung in the trees along Rathkes gate, facing both the church and the park. Their number and placement create varying levels of intensity. Different sizes and material combinations create different sounds. The sail suspended beneath can both reflect and color the light. The primary material is the movement created by nature itself; once the triennial concludes, the added objects are taken down, dismantled, and repurposed.
The chimes are made with simple materials that can easily be disassembled and reused
The proposal was realised as a temporary installation for Oslo Urban Week outside our own office with project samples used as sails
